Needs access to the bond market
With its bonds trading at deep discounts and its CDS spiking to unprecedented rates, the bond market is starting to lose faith in Intrum. We underestimated that it could lose access to the bond market and see a liquidity issue brewing by Q3/25. While we think Intrum has some time to improve its earnings and receive help from lower policy rates, we downgrade to Hold (Buy), as we see too many uncertain assumptions for Intrum’s (likely higher) future COE.

Intrum is overleveraged and the bond market is signaling significantly higher funding costs for the upcoming refinancing of outstanding bonds. CDS spreads, meantime, are suggesting an elevated risk of default. Although the economic squeeze on European consumers is likely to result in many debt portfolios becoming available, we believe collection times will lengthen. However, we believe Intrum will deleverage to 3.5x by end of 2026, which should be seen as positive by the market.
Värdering
Our target price is based on a DCF valuation.
Risker
If Intrum is not able to find new funding, either through the bond market or bank loans, we see a potential liquidity issue by Q3 2025. Additionally, if EUR/SEK rate were to move unfavourably it would become increasingly expensive for Intrum to repurchase its debt and deleverage the company. On the upside, central banks looks likely to cut policy rates in 2024-25, which will help earnings. Moreover, Intrum has launched a cost saving programme to improve adj. EBIT margins ahead.
